Why we are here
In recent missives, we have shared our thoughts on the challenges of investing and the common pitfalls spelled out by behavioral finance. In this post, we focus on the "why" we invest.
Investing is the deployment of assets toward achieving something of greater value. We focus on the investment of financial capital, but often, investment comes in the form of time, energy and relationships - call it human capital.
We invest because we know we must. Failure to do so, is a near guarantee for the erosion of purchasing power. We invest to protect against an unpredictable future, and we invest for the betterment of humankind by providing funding to organizations that consciously make an effort to preserve our rights, resources and environment.
EPIQ Partners believes in the power of relationships. We are wired to provide uncompromising stewardship regarding the financial well-being of our clients. We accomplish this by aligning interests and removing the moral hazards that plague many in the investment industry. We strive to be authentic and thoughtful at every opportunity in order to create solutions that are the best of what is possible for each client.
Linked below are two recent articles discussing what one should look for in an investment advisor. Please take a moment to read and give some thought to the "why" you are invested the way you are.
- WSJ 2.16.2017 - How to Evaluate Your Financial Adviser
- NYTimes 2.17.2017 – Is Your Financial Adviser Acting In Your Best Interest?
To date, we have not shared in print the genesis of the name our firm. Now feels like a good opportunity to explain how we came to be EPIQ Partners.
Like many in a consultative profession, we deliberately choose not to use any part of our given names, but rather use a unique acronym to convey our aspirations.
For EPIQ, these are
E - Emunah: an ancient Hebrew word describing an innate conviction or covenant. A perception of truth that transcends, rather than evades reason.
P - Pretium: Latin for price, value or reward with respect to worth, excellence or importance
I - Intelligence: an aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts and meanings.
Q - Quanti: Latin for "how much?"
And "Partners" is especially important because we bring a partnership mentality to all of our relationships. EPIQ's platform, founded on mutual respect and open, transparent communication, is critical to long-term success and meaningful results.
